Pajottenland Belgian Melon
Horticultural & culinary description The Pajottenland Belgian Melon is a true gem of our local horticultural heritage. This ancient melon produces deliciously fragrant and sweet fruits with melting flesh. In our Brussels climate, it thrives when grown under cover, in a tunnel, or against a well-exposed wall to ensure it gets the heat needed for ripening. It is a hardy variety from heirloom seeds that restores the reputation of Belgian terroir.
Benefits for biodiversity Its large yellow flowers are an important source of nectar for pollinators in mid-summer. By growing this melon in Anderlecht with our peat-free potting mix, we are helping to save a variety that almost disappeared, thereby strengthening the resilience of our cultivated biodiversity.
A word from PÉPI PÉPI This is our local pride! Originally from the Pajottenland region, this variety symbolizes the resistance of heirloom seeds against standardization. In permaculture, we try to recreate microclimates: our trick is to place a large dark stone at the base of the plant. It will store the sun's heat during the day and release it at night, naturally boosting the sugar content of your melons.
Our prices: For each of our plants, we offer 2 prices. The basic price corresponds to the average price you would find in a garden center. The support price values the work behind our plants: heirloom seeds, peat-free potting mix — because elsewhere, peat bogs are destroyed to fertilize your plants —, plants sown, transplanted and pampered by our hands, and zero import-export.
Whatever your choice, it's a good choice!
