PÉPI PÉPI is the Brussels Peasant Nursery.

We propagate plants, we design forest gardens, we work for the living.

Welcome to Pépi Pépi!

We grow organic plants on site from heirloom seeds — vegetable plants, herbs, flowers, berries, and, gradually, fruit trees — and we design food gardens, forest gardens, and permaculture and syntropic systems.

PÉPI PÉPI is not just an abbreviation for "nursery": it's also the sound of birds singing when they land on the trees, shrubs, and plants we grow: "PÉPI PÉPI PÉPiiii!"

A peasant nursery in Brussels

At PÉPI PÉPI, we sow, propagate, multiply, and graft our plants on site, in Anderlecht. We do not import plants for resale.

This approach requires time, attention, transplanting, observation, and regular presence throughout the seasons. It also allows us to offer plants that we have monitored from beginning to end, produced in the same climatic conditions as those in which they will be planted.

In spring, the nursery focuses primarily on vegetable plants: tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, herbs, and other vegetables suited to Belgian conditions.

But our work doesn't stop there: we also develop a range of flowers, small fruits, edible perennials, and fruit trees. Because as a local nursery, we don't just want to produce tomatoes, but to reintroduce diverse cultivated environments.

Peasant seeds,
not standardized plants

All our plants are grown from heirloom seeds.
Unlike F1 hybrid seeds, widely produced by large seed companies such as Bayer-Monsanto, Syngenta, or Limagrain, heirloom seeds are reproducible. They can be re-sown, selected, and adapted over time.

F1 hybrid seeds are designed to produce homogeneous and high-performing plants within certain technical frameworks of conventional agriculture, but they create a dependency on annual purchase and contribute to the gradual erosion of cultivated diversity, local plant adaptation, and farmers' autonomy.

According to the FAO, approximately 75% of cultivated diversity disappeared during the 20th century. Working with heirloom seeds means advocating for a different relationship with living things: more localized, more diverse, more fertile, and less dependent on industrial logics.

Design of edible gardens, forest gardens and permaculture systems

We also design food gardens in Brussels: vegetable gardens, edible gardens, forest gardens, orchards, permaculture and syntropic systems.

Our work always starts with the land and your wishes. We observe the site, its uses, its constraints, its exposure, its soil, the available water... and we propose food systems capable of evolving over time.
We use design principles from permaculture and syntropy: plant succession, stratification, biomass management, reasoned densification of plantings, articulation between annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees.

In other words, we design gardens where plants support each other, where fertility accumulates, and where the garden nourishes both humans and nature.

The Trio

PÉPI PÉPI is run by Aurélie Hennebert, Alvina Lèche, and Romain Herrerias.
We combine complementary expertise in nursery management, botany, design, permaculture, syntropy, and knowledge transfer.
Trained notably at Pépinière des Alvéoles, we are developing a human-scale project that is both demanding, well-rooted, and joyful.

Call to Action

In spring, plants are available from early May to mid-June, a period suitable for planting them in Belgian conditions. Quantities remain limited, as we produce all of our own plants.
